In this study, the phylogenetic relationships of the seven genera of palms of the Australian subtribe Archontophoenicinae : are investigated. Three main clades appear, corresponding to distinct geographical areas : Australia (Archontophoenix). Tasman Sea to New Zealand (Hedyscepe and Rhopalostryis) and New Caledonia (four genera). The New Caledonian clade exhibits the greatest morphological diversity and this group is in need of a reassessment at the generic level.
