The authors describe the male, female and larva of a new species of mosquito (Diptera: Culicidae), Aedes (Aedimorphus) suzannae n. sp., endemic to Aldabra, a coralline atoll, and Assomption Island, the Seychelles in the Indian Ocean. Its larval stage was first described by Hopkins (1952) but wrongly attributed to the species Aedes (Coetzeemyia) fryeri (Theobald, 1912), as we were able to demonstrate on the basis of nucleotide sequences. The authors also provide full description of the larva of Ae. fryeri and review its recorded geographic distribution, mainly distributed in coastal areas of western Indian Ocean. In Aldabra, these two species exhibit several common features : aquatic stages develop in rock holes with brackish water, mosquito abundance is high in rainy season and nuisance due to female bites is heavy towards humans and turtles.
