Its larval stage was first described by Hopkins (1952) but wrongly attributed to the species Aedes (Coetzeemyia) fryeri (Theobald, 1912), as we were able to demonstrate on the basis of nucleotide sequences. The authors also provide full description of the larva of Ae. fryeri and review its recorded geographic distribution, mainly distributed in coastal areas of western Indian Ocean.
