Lastly, the tuna-environment programme investigates the impact of environment variability (seasonal and inter-annuel) on the distribution and availability of tunas to the different surface fishing gears, using the data bases available at ORSTOM (oceanography) and at the Tuna and Billfish Assessment Programme of the South Pacific Commission (tuna fisheries statistics); this is collaborative effort between these two organisations. Some preliminary results of this study are presented hereafter.
