In Senegal, the first case of COVID was reported on March 2, 2020. A series of health measures border closures, bans on gatherings, and travel restrictions-were put into place to prevent the spread of the virus. From the beginning of the epidemic, the elderly and people with chronic diseases, including HIV, were seen as particularly vulnerable. PLHIV associations endeavored to provide support to PLHIV and mitigate the consequences of health measures. At the Fann Regional Center for Research and Training in Clinical Care in Dakar, a group of association mediators and anthropologists developed a community-based research project to document these interventions, assess their impact, and provide testimony to the health authorities. This article analyzes the process, presents the results, and reflects on the issues, contributions and limitations of this community-based research.
