The article addresses the conflicts of interpretation inherent in the recognition of the racist and discriminatory character of a situation, within the framework of organizations for the receipt and follow-up of individual complaints. Taking these organizations as the starting point of the study makes it possible to reveal several dimensions of the object known as _discrimination_. In a first stage, the set of discrimination experiences reported to these organizations makes it possible to examine the modalities in which discrimination is practiced in everyday social life. The repetitive and multifaceted nature of these experiences illustrates the dual dimension of racism: situational and structural. In a second stage, the article takes the discourse of potential discriminated individuals, of the discriminators, and of the parties in charge of receiving the complaints of the former as the basis to analyze the different discursive strategies deployed by each one of the actors in the context of their interaction. Discriminated individuals seek to be recognized as such; discriminators attempt to invalidate the accusations against them; and the receiving parties have to listen and handle the complaint. Thus, the interaction gives rise to strategies aimed at the objectivization, refutation, or reparation of discrimination, which are addressed here in their factual, compassionate, and moral dimensions. The final part of the article deals with the limits of the legal follow-up of the complaint, as well as with the conflicts of interpretation it gives rise to.
