Relative sea level fluctuation curves, during the last seven thousand years, have been delineated for several sectors of the Brazilian coast. These curves have shown that the central Brazilian coast has been subject to submergence until approximately 5100 yr BP and to emergence since then. However, the emergence after 5100 yr BP was interrupted by two high-frequency oscillations with amplitude of approximately 2-3 m and duration of about 300 yr. Angulo and Lessa, [Mar. Geol. 140 (1997) 141-166] have recently questioned the existence of these oscillations. However, several different lines of evidence strongly confirm the existence of these high-frequency oscillations. (Résumé d'auteur)
