An assessment has been carried out on the profitability of fishing for pelagic species around the fish aggregating devices (F.A.D.) moored in Vanuatu, and more specifically on Efate. A balance of accounts covers the cost and income on a fishing trip basis. Ideally, an average of 100 trips per annum should be achieved to offset the investment. On Efate, fuel consumption costs during the fishing trip account for 56% of the overall costs of the trip. The fluctuation in income follows the fluctuating levels of production depending on the amount of time spent trolling around the rafts. (D'après résumé d'auteur)
