@article{fdi:39564, title = {{L}es {F}oulb{\'e} de l'{A}damaoua et l'{\'e}levage : de l'id{\'e}ologie pastorale {\`a} la pluri-activit{\'e}}, author = {{B}outrais, {J}ean}, editor = {}, language = {{FRE}}, abstract = {{E}ven when settled, the {F}ulani have such an intense relation with raising cattle that it tends to transfigure reality. {S}ince this people arrived on the {A}damawa {P}lateau, the position of pastoralism in their society has changed, periods of herding being followed, in an almost cyclic rhythm, by trends toward depastoralization. {T}he importance of raising livestock varies as a function of lineage stratification. {F}urthermore, the geographical distribution of the {F}ulani around the political center is linked to pastoralism. {A} cross-selectional analysis of the {N}gaound{\'e}r{\'e} lamidat brings to light this opposition between center and periphery : by the percentage of {F}ulani herders also reflects each cross-section's ecological context. {T}hough still defining themselves as a pastoral people, the {A}damawa {F}ulani now engage in many other activities. {I}n rural areas, agriculture is pursued, often along with herding. {T}rading, especially if related to cattle, is also attracting more and more people. {T}he {F}ulani also value religious knowledge to varying degrees.
