@incollection{fdi:010096620, title = {{F}ull{SWOF} : a software for overland flow simulation}, author = {{D}elestre, {O}. and {C}ordier, {S}. and {D}arboux, {F}. and {D}u, {M}. and {J}ames, {F}. and {L}aguerre, {C}. and {L}ucas, {C}. and {P}lanchon, {O}livier}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{O}verland flow on agricultural fields may have some undesirable effects such as soil erosion, flood, and pollutant transport. {T}o better understand this phenomenon and limit its consequences, we developed a code using state-of-the-art numerical methods: {F}ull {S}hallow {W}ater equations for {O}verland {F}low ({F}ull{SWOF} ), an object-oriented code written in {C}++. {I}t has been made open-source and can be downloaded from http://www.univ-orleans.fr/mapmo/soft/{F}ull{SWOF}/. {T}he model is based on the classical system of shallow water ({SW}) (or {S}aint-{V}enant system). {N}umerical difficulties come from the numerous dry/wet transitions and the highly variable topography encountered inside a field. {T}he code includes run-on and rainfall inputs, infiltration (modified {G}reen-{A}mpt equation), and friction ({D}arcy-{W}eisbach and {M}anning formulas). {F}irst, we present the numerical method for the resolution of the {SW} equations integrated in {F}ull{SWOF}_2{D} (the two-dimensional version). {T}his method is based on hydrostatic reconstruction scheme, coupled with a semi-implicit friction term treatment. {F}ull{SWOF}_2{D} has been previously validated using analytical solutions from the {S}hallow {W}ater {A}nalytic {S}olutions for {H}ydraulic and {E}nvironmental {S}tudies library ({SWASHES}). {F}ull{SWOF}_2{D} is run on a real topography measured on a runoff plot located in {T}hies ({S}enegal). {S}imulation results are compared with measured data. {T}his experimental benchmark demonstrates the capabilities of {F}ull{SWOF} to simulate adequately overland flow. {F}ull{SWOF} could also be used for other environmental issues, such as river floods and dam breaks.}, keywords = {{SENEGAL} ; {THIES}}, booktitle = {{A}dvances in hydroinformatics : {SIMHYDRO} 2012 - new frontiers of simulation}, numero = {}, pages = {221--231}, address = {{S}ingapour}, publisher = {{S}pringer}, series = {}, year = {2013}, DOI = {10.1007/978-981-4451-42-0_19}, ISBN = {978-981-4451-41-3}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010096620}, }
