French forests are facing the effects of climate change, leading to a growing awareness of the need to adapt silvicultural practices. At the same time forests are also a central element of the national mitigation strategy. This climate challenge issue overlaps with earlier dynamics around forest multifunctionality and the "greening" of society. In this context, our study analyzes the recombinations induced in terms of coalitions, practices and discourses, at the interface between environmental arguments, climatic arguments, and both territorial and climatic materialities experienced by local actors, in three regional nature parks. On the one hand, our survey reveals a form of stability in both coalitions and practices: between so-called "close to nature" and industrial silvicultural practices. On the other hand, we also show how territorial materialities and the lived experiences of climate change can shape and modify coalitions, discourses and practices; the management of a climate crisis inducing changes in practices and alliances. Finally, we highlight the fact that engagement towards climate issues is not necessarily correlated with the experience of obvious signs of climate change. We conclude with the discrepancy between national debates centered on mitigation, while local actors are more concerned with the issue of adaptation to maintain forests.
