@article{fdi:010094987, title = {{A} systematic process to formulate quality lessons learned about hospital resilience during the {COVID}-19 pandemic}, author = {{H}addad, {R}. and {D}agenais, {C}. and {K}ielende, {M}. and {H}ot, {A}. and {R}idde, {V}al{\'e}ry}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{B}ackground {T}he urgency of the {COVID}-19 pandemic forced hospitals to adjust swiftly to the health crisis. {T}hey adopted a variety of solutions and encountered numerous challenges. {T}o enhance hospitals' readiness for future crises, the {H}o{SP}i{COVID} research project documented the experiences of seven hospitals in five countries ({B}razil, {C}anada, {F}rance, {J}apan, {M}ali) to extract quality lessons learned ({QLL}s). {T}hese were subsequently refined through workshops involving healthcare professionals.{O}bjectives{T}he aim of this study was to examine the process of conducting {QLL} formulation workshops in the {H}o{SP}i{COVID} hospitals to identify facilitators and barriers encountered. {M}ethod {T}his study was based on a qualitative approach. {S}emi-structured individual interviews ({N} = 13) were conducted with researchers and professionals in the five countries. {I}nterview recordings were imported into {NV}ivo software, transcribed, and thematically analyzed. {R}esults {A}lthough the professionals participated actively in the workshops, group dynamics were sometimes impeded by existing power dynamics among participants. {N}onetheless, professionals perceived the workshops as an optimal method for formulating {QLL}s. {D}istributing summary sheets of workshop content beforehand and ensuring the alignment of content with participants' needs enhanced the effectiveness of the process.{C}onclusion{D}espite obstacles encountered in the workshops, participants appreciated the initiative of documenting {QLL}s using a structured approach in which the {QLL}s were refined and professionals were able to compare experiences. {T}he {QLL}s formulated could improve hospitals' responses to future health crises. {T}he recommendations from this study could also enhance the organization of future workshops aiming to formulate {QLL}s.}, keywords = {{Q}uality lessons learned ; public health ; {H}ealthcare ; {H}o{SP}i{COVID} ; knowledge transfer ; {BRESIL} ; {CANADA} ; {FRANCE} ; {JAPON} ; {MALI}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{G}lobal {H}ealth {A}ction}, volume = {18}, numero = {1}, pages = {2547439 [7 ]}, year = {2025}, DOI = {10.1080/16549716.2025.2547439}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010094987}, }
