@article{fdi:010094575, title = {{R}upture segmentation of the 14 {A}ugust 2021 {M}w 7.2 {N}ippes, {H}aiti, earthquake using aftershock relocation from a local seismic deployment}, author = {{D}ouilly, {R}. and {P}aul, {S}. and {M}onfret, {T}ony and {D}eschamps, {A}. and {A}mbrois, {D}. and {S}ymithe, {S}.{J}. and {S}t {F}leur, {S}. and {C}ourboulex, {F}. and {C}alais, {E}ric and {B}oisson, {D}. and {M}ercier de {L}{\'e}pinay, {B}. and {F}ont, {Y}vonne and {C}h{\`e}ze, {J}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he 14 {A}ugust 2021 {M}w 7.2 {H}aiti earthquake struck 11 yr after the devastating 2010 event within the {E}nriquillo {P}lantain {G}arden ({EPG}) fault zone in the {S}outhern peninsula of {H}aiti. {S}pace geodetic results show that the rupture is composed of both left-lateral strike-slip and thrust motion, similar to the 2010 rupture; but aftershock locations from a local short-period network are too diffuse to precisely delineate the segments that participated in this rupture. {A} few days after the mainshocks, we installed 12 broadband stations in the epicentral area. {H}ere, we use data from those stations in combination with four local {R}aspberry {S}hakes stations that were already in place as part of a citizen seismology experiment to precisely relocate 2528 aftershocks from {A}ugust to {D}ecember 2021, and derive 1{D} {P}- and {S}-crustal velocity models for this region. {W}e show that the aftershocks delineate three north-dipping structures with different strikes, located to the north of the {EPG} fault. {I}n addition, two smaller aftershock clusters occurred on the {EPG} fault near the hypocenter area, indicative of triggered seismicity. {F}ocal mechanisms are in agreement with coseismic slip inversion from {I}nterferometric {S}ynthetic {A}perture {R}adar data with nodal planes that are consistent with the transpressional structures illustrated by the aftershock zones.}, keywords = {{HAITI} ; {NIPPES}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{B}ulletin of the {S}eismological {S}ociety of {A}merica}, volume = {113}, numero = {1}, pages = {58--72}, ISSN = {0037-1106}, year = {2022}, DOI = {10.1785/0120220128}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010094575}, }
