@article{fdi:010094443, title = {{A}n updated checklist of {A}nnonaceae species of the western {I}ndian {O}cean with the description of a new species of {F}enerivia from {M}adagascar}, author = {{R}avomanana, {E}. {O}. and {R}amarosandratana, {V}. {T}. and {E}lliott, {A}. and {V}erohanitra, {R}. and {R}akotoarinivo, {M}. and {C}ouvreur, {T}homas}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{I}n the western {I}ndian {O}cean islands, which include {M}adagascar, the {M}ascarene, {M}ayotte and {C}omoros, taxonomic research of the major pantropical family {A}nnonaceae is outdated. {B}ased on a taxonomically verified database of 2,794 georeferenced botanical collections (2,752 from {M}adagascar), 110 native {A}nnonaceae taxa (106 species) belonging to 9 genera are recorded for this region. {A} total of 106 native taxa (102 species) are recorded from {M}adagascar (105 taxa endemic), including a newly described species of {F}enerivia {D}iels. {F}ive species are recorded from {C}omoros, {M}ayotte and the {M}ascarene islands. {H}uberantha humblotii ({C}avaco & {K}eraudren) {C}haowasku is the only non-endemic {M}alagasy species sharing its distribution with {C}omoros. {W}e make five new combinations, transferring four species from {P}opowia {E}ndl. into {S}phaerocoryne ({B}oerl.) {S}cheff. ex {R}idl. and one {U}varia {L}. species into {H}uberantha {C}haowasku. {F}inally, 43 names are lectotypified. {T}he genus {P}opowia is now no longer present in {M}adagascar, being restricted to {S}outheast {A}sia. {T}he genus {X}ylopia {L}. is the most diverse in {M}adagascar with 30 species, followed by {U}varia (21 spp.) and {M}onanthotaxis {B}aill.
