@article{fdi:010094357, title = {{P}articulate matter and carbonaceous content in aerosols from {H}aiphong and {H}anoi cities, {N}orthern {V}ietnam}, author = {{G}uigue, {C}atherine and {M}artinot, {P}. {L}. and {C}hifflet, {S}andrine and {G}uyomarch, {L}. and {D}ominutti, {P}. {A}. and {J}affrezo, {J}. {L}. and {N}go-{D}uc, {T}. and {B}ui, {V}. and {V}u, {C}. {T}. and {U}zu, {G}a{\¨e}lle and {T}edetti, {M}arc and {M}ari, {X}avier}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A}irborne particulate matter ({PM}) and its carbonaceous content (elemental carbon, {EC} and organic carbon, {OC}, including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, {PAH}s) were investigated in {H}aiphong and {H}anoi, two major cities in the {N}orthern {V}ietnam, aiming at elucidating the relative importance of local and regional atmospheric pollution. {T}he monthly average ranges of {PM}2.5 were 14-37 mu g m(-3) in {H}aiphong, and 35-102 mu g m(-3) in {H}anoi, respectively, during the period 2020-2023. {EC}, {OC} and {PAH} concentrations annually averaged 2.1 +/- 1.3 mu g m(-3), 4.9 +/- 3.1 mu g m(-3) and 4.4 +/- 2.6 ng m(-3) in {H}aiphong {PM}10 from {O}ct. 2012 to {O}ct. 2013, and 1.3 +/- 0.9 mu g m(-3), 9.1 +/- 6.2 mu g m(-3) and 5.9 +/- 5.8 ng m(-3) in {H}anoi {PM}2.5 from {O}ct. 2019 to {D}ec. 2020, respectively. {S}easonal variations were observed, with higher values during the dry season (winter) compared to the wet season (summer), as expected according to monsoon meteorological conditions. {H}owever, spatial variations and correlations between {EC}, {OC}, and {PAH}s, along with other markers of human activities (such as levoglucosan, secondary inorganic aerosols and metals), emphasized city-specific influence of local emission sources versus those transported from distant locations. {H}anoi, highly urbanized, appeared to be yearly dominated by the local emissions while {H}aiphong, less urbanized and located near the sea, allowed to highlight seasonal variations in emission origin. {W}hile {PM} values exceeded up to 15 times international air quality recommendations, health risk assessment related to inhaled {PAH}s, in line with previous results relying on metals, remained low to moderate.}, keywords = {{V}ietnam ; {A}ir pollution ; {A}irborne particulate matter ; {C}arbonaceous content ; {P}olycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons ; {VIET} {NAM} ; {HAIPHONG} ; {HANOI}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{A}tmospheric {P}ollution {R}esearch}, volume = {16}, numero = {11}, pages = {102638 [16 ]}, ISSN = {1309-1042}, year = {2025}, DOI = {10.1016/j.apr.2025.102638}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010094357}, }
