@article{fdi:010093805, title = {{E}valuation of the performance of rapid diagnostic tests for malaria diagnosis and mapping of different {P}lasmodium species in {M}ali}, author = {{D}emb{\'e}l{\'e}, {P}. and {C}issoko, {M}. and {D}iarra, {A}dama {Z}an and {D}oumbia, {L}. and {K}on{\'e}, {A}. and {M}agassa, {M}.{H}. and {M}ehadji, {M}. and {T}hera, {M}.{A}. and {R}anque, {S}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{B}ackground: {T}he first-line diagnosis of malaria in {M}ali is based on the use of rapid diagnostic tests ({RDT}) that detect the {H}istidin {R}ich {P}rotein 2 ({HRP}2) antigen specific to {P}lasmodium falciparum. {O}ur study, based on a real-time polymerase chain reaction (q{PCR}) gold standard, aimed to describe the distribution of the {P}lasmodium species in each administrative region of {M}ali and to assess the performance of {RDT}s. {M}ethods: {W}e randomly selected 150 malaria-negative and up to 30 malaria-positive {RDT}s in 41 sites distributed in 9 regions of {M}ali. {DNA} extracted from the {RDT} nitrocellulose strip was assayed with a pan-{P}lasmodium q{PCR}. {P}ositive samples were then analyzed with {P}. falciparum-, {P}. malariae-, {P}. vivax-, or {P}. ovale-specific q{PCR}s. {R}esults: {O}f the 1496 {RDT}s, 258 (18.6%) were positive for {P}lasmodium spp., of which 96.9% were {P}. falciparum. {T}he {P}. vivax prevalence reached 21.1% in the north. {RDT} displayed acceptable diagnostic indices; the lower {CI}95% bounds of {Y}ouden indices were all ?0.50, except in the north ({Y}ouden index 0.66 (95% {CI} [0.44-0.82]) and 0.63 (95% {CI} [0.33-0.83]. {C}onclusions: {O}verall, {RDT} diagnostic indices are adequate for the biological diagnosis of malaria in {M}ali. {W}e recommend the use of {RDT}s detecting {P}. vivax-specific antigens in the north.}, keywords = {{MALI}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}nternational {J}ournal of {E}nvironmental {R}esearch and {P}ublic {H}ealth}, volume = {21}, numero = {2}, pages = {228}, ISSN = {1660-4601}, year = {2024}, DOI = {10.3390/ijerph21020228}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010093805}, }
