@article{fdi:010093130, title = {{S}yphilis diagnosis and serological response to {B}enzathine {P}enicillin {G} among patients attending {HIV} clinics in {N}'{D}jam{\'e}na, {C}had}, author = {{A}dawaye, {C}. and {S}ouleymane, {A}.{O}. and {A}doum {F}ouda, {A}. and {D}jarma, {O}. and {C}ournil, {A}mandine and {T}uaillon, {E}. and {M}ennechet, {F}.{J}.{D}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{B}ackground: {S}yphilis is endemic in the {S}ub-{S}aharan zone and disproportionately affects at-risk populations such as men who have sex with men, sex workers and {HIV} infected individuals. {I}n this study, we measure the impact of syphilis among people living with {HIV} in the {R}epublic of {C}had, where no data are currently available. {M}ethod: {O}utpatients attending 2 {HIV} clinics in {N}'{D}jamena, {R}epublic of {C}had, were tested for syphilis. {S}ubjects who tested positive for both non-treponemal ({VDRL}) and treponemal ({TPHA}) received a single dose of {B}enzathine {P}enicillin {G}, 2.4 {MU}. {A}n additional {VDRL} test was performed 6 months after treatment to ensure appropriate serological response. {R}esults: {O}f 207 patients included, 29 (14%) tested positive for {VDRL} at the first visit, with moderate/low antibody titers (ranging from 1/2 to 1/8); 24 (82.6%) of these had treponemal immunization confirmed by {TPHA} test. {S}ix months after {B}enzathine {P}enicillin treatment, 22/24 of the patients (91.6%) tested negative for {VDRL}, and 2 showed a 4-fold titer decline. {C}onclusion: {T}his first study in the {R}epublic of {C}had suggests that syphilis infection is frequent among people living with {HIV} in this country. {S}ystematic screening of syphilis should be considered in this population.}, keywords = {{AFRIQUE} {SUBSAHARIENNE} ; {TCHAD} ; {N}'{DJAMENA}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}nternational {J}ournal of {I}nfectious {D}iseases}, volume = {108}, numero = {}, pages = {461--464}, ISSN = {1201-9712}, year = {2021}, DOI = {10.1016/j.ijid.2021.05.051}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010093130}, }
