@article{fdi:010093092, title = {{M}ain life history traits of the largehead hairtail, {T}richiurus lepturus ({L}innaeus, 1758) from the {S}enegalese {N}orth coast}, author = {{D}iop, {K}. and {D}iouf, {K}. and {N}diour, {Y}. and {D}iouf, {S}. and {J}ouffre, {D}idier}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}richiurus lepturus is a benthopelagic species of socio-economic importance in {S}enegal. {D}espite its intensive exploitation, there is a lack of studies on its life traits in {W}est {A}frican waters, particularly in {S}enegal. {T}his study aims to determine the biological parameters of this species in the northern coastal zone of {S}enegal. {S}amples were collected monthly from {A}pril 2015 to {M}arch 2016 in {C}ayar, one of the main landing sites in {S}enegal. {A} total of 354 specimens were caught with longlines. {C}ondition factor varied between the years with a peak in {M}ay. {P}ositive allometric growth (b = 3.24) was found for this species. {T}he reproductive period mainly occurred from {A}pril to {J}uly, and the sizes at first sexual maturity were 831 mm and 766 mm for females and males, respectively. {A}bsolute fecundity was highly variable (39,976.88 ± 19,793.02 oocytes). {T}he growth parameters estimated were asymptotic length ({L}¥) = 134 cm and the growth coefficient ({K}) = 0.0016. {T}he maximum observed age was 1 year and 7 months. {T}hese parameters could be integrated into stock assessment models, providing a better estimate of the exploitation level of this resource and aiding in the formulation of more scientifically informed management measures for sustainable exploitation.}, keywords = {{SENEGAL} ; {ATLANTIQUE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{F}isheries and {A}quatic {L}ife}, volume = {32}, numero = {3}, pages = {204--217}, ISSN = {2545-059{X}}, year = {2024}, DOI = {10.2478/aopf-2024-0018}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010093092}, }
