@article{fdi:010092912, title = {{A}n updated synthesis of ocean total alkalinity and dissolved inorganic carbon measurements from 1993 to 2023 : the {SNAPO}-{CO}2-v2 dataset}, author = {{M}etzl, {N}. and {F}in, {J}. and {L}o {M}onaco, {C}. and {M}ignon, {C}. and {A}lliouane, {S}. and {B}ombled, {B}. and {B}outin, {J}. and {B}ozec, {Y}. and {C}omeau, {S}. and {C}onan, {P}. and {C}oppola, {L}. and {C}uet, {P}. and {F}erreira, {E}. and {G}attuso, {J}. {P}. and {G}azeau, {F}. and {G}oyet, {C}. and {G}rossteffan, {E}. and {L}ansard, {B}. and {L}ef{\`e}vre, {D}. and {L}ef{\`e}vre, {N}athalie and {L}eseurre, {C}. and {P}etton, {S}. and {P}ujo-{P}ay, {M}. and {R}abouille, {C}. and {R}everdin, {G}. and {R}idame, {C}. and {R}immelin-{M}aury, {P}. and {T}ernon, {J}ean-{F}ran{\c{c}}ois and {T}ouratier, {F}. and {T}ribollet, {A}line and {W}agener, {T}. and {W}imart-{R}ousseau, {C}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}otal alkalinity ({A}({T})) and dissolved inorganic carbon ({C}-{T}) in the oceans are important properties to understand the ocean carbon cycle and its link with global change (ocean carbon sinks and sources, ocean acidification) and ultimately to find carbon-based solutions or mitigation procedures (marine carbon removal). {W}e present an extended database ({SNAPO}-{CO}2; {M}etzl et al., 2024c) with 24 700 new additional data for the period 2002 to 2023. {T}he full database now includes more than 67 000 {A}({T}) and {C}-{T} observations along with basic ancillary data (time and space location, depth, temperature, and salinity) in various oceanic regions obtained since 1993 mainly in the framework of {F}rench research projects. {T}his includes both surface and water columns data acquired in open oceans, coastal zones, rivers, the {M}editerranean {S}ea, and either from time series stations or punctual cruises. {M}ost {A}({T}) and {C}-{T} data in this synthesis were measured from discrete samples using the same closed-cell potentiometric titration calibrated with certified reference material, with an overall accuracy of +/- 4 mu mol kg(-1) for both {A}({T}) and {C}-{T}. {T}he same technique was used on board for underway measurements during cruises conducted in the southern {I}ndian and {S}outhern oceans. {T}he {A}({T}) and {C}-{T} data from these cruises are also added to this synthesis. {T}he data are provided in one dataset for the global ocean (https://doi.org/10.17882/102337, {M}etzl et al., 2024c) that offers a direct use for regional or global purposes, e.g., {A}({T})-salinity relationships, long-term {C}-{T} estimates, constraint and validation of diagnostics {C}-{T} and {A}({T}) reconstructed fields, ocean carbon and coupled climate-carbon models simulations, and data derived from {B}iogeochemical {A}rgo ({BGC}-{A}rgo) floats. {T}hese data can also be used to calculate p{H}, fugacity of {CO}2 (f{CO}(2)), and other carbon system properties to derive ocean acidification rates or air-sea {CO}2 fluxes.}, keywords = {{MONDE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{E}arth {S}ystem {S}cience {D}ata}, volume = {17}, numero = {3}, pages = {1075--1100}, ISSN = {1866-3508}, year = {2025}, DOI = {10.5194/essd-17-1075-2025}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010092912}, }
