@article{fdi:010092742, title = {{S}patial autocorrelation and host anemone species drive variation in local components of fitness in a wild clownfish population}, author = {{M}arrot, {P}. and {F}auvelot, {C}{\'e}cile and {B}erumen, {M}. {L}. and {S}rinivasan, {M}. and {J}ones, {G}. {P}. and {P}lanes, {S}. and {P}ujol, {B}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he susceptibility of species to habitat changes depends on which ecological drivers shape individual fitness components. {T}o date, only a few studies have quantified fitness components such as the {L}ifetime {R}eproductive {S}uccess across multiple generations in wild marine species. {B}ecause of a long-term sampling effort, such information is available for the population of wild orange clownfish, {A}mphiprion percula, from {K}imbe {I}sland ({P}apua {N}ew {G}uinea). {P}revious work on the wild orange clownfish near {K}imbe {I}sland suggests that there is little adaptive potential and that variation in {LRS} is mainly driven by a breeder's habitat. {W}hether the host anemone species, geographic location, density or depth contributed to {LRS} remains however unknown because they were combined into a unique variable. {W}e tested whether it is the ecology or the spatial distribution of clownfish that shaped the individual variation of a local fitness component, which would affect the population self- recruitment process and ultimately the maintenance of this wild population. {O}ur spatially explicit analysis disentangled the role of these factors. {W}e found that the host anemone species had an impact on wild clownfish {LRS} independently from their spatial distribution. {T}he spatial distribution nevertheless had an impact on its own, as reflected by the spatial autocorrelation of {LRS}. {D}epth and density of anemones did not show a significant impact. {O}ur findings imply that this clownfish population is susceptible to modifications of the spatial distribution and local assembly of anemone species}, keywords = {{PAPOUASIE} {NOUVELLE} {GUINEE} ; {KIMBE} {ILE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{PEER} {C}ommunity {J}ournal}, volume = {5}, numero = {}, pages = {e7 [16 p.]}, year = {2025}, DOI = {10.24072/pcjournal.493}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010092742}, }
