@article{fdi:010092696, title = {{P}rioritisation of infectious diseases from a public health perspective : a multi-criteria decision analysis study, {F}rance, 2024}, author = {{P}loin, {D}. and {A}lexandre, {M}. and {V}entelou, {B}. and {C}he, {D}. and {C}oignard, {B}. and {B}oulanger, {N}. and {B}urucoa, {C}. and {C}aron, {F}. and {G}allian, {P}. and {H}ansmann, {Y}. and {L}ienhardt, {C}hristian and {M}inodie, {P}. and {P}artouche, {H}. and {R}evest, {M}. and {S}aidani, {N}. and {S}alvat, {G}. and {V}ignier, {N}. and {F}loreani, {S}. and {H}enry, {S}. and {P}ozzetto, {B}. and {H}oen, {B}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{B}ackground: {W}ithin the {I}nternational {H}ealth {R}egulations framework, the {F}rench {H}igh {C}ouncil for {P}ublic {H}ealth was mandated in 2022 by health authori-ties to establish a list of priority infectious diseases for public health, surveillance and research in mainland and overseas {F}rance. {A}im: {O}ur objective was to estab-lish this list. {M}ethods: {A} multi-criteria decision analy-sis was used, as recommended by the {E}uropean {C}entre for {D}isease {P}revention and {C}ontrol. {A} list of 95 entities (infectious diseases or groups of these, including the {W}orld {H}ealth {O}rganization ({WHO})-labelled '{D}isease {X}') was established by 17 infectious disease experts. {T}en criteria were defined to score entities: incidence rate, case fatality rate, potential for emergence and spread, impact on the individual, on society, on socially vul-nerable groups, on the healthcare system, and need for new preventive tools, new curative therapies, and surveillance. {E}ach criterion was assigned a relative weight by 77 multidisciplinary experts. {F}or each entity, 98 physicians from various specialties rated each cri-terion against the entity, using a four-class {L}ikert-type scale; the ratings were converted into numeric val-ues with a nonlinear scale and respectively weighted to calculate the entity score. {R}esults: {F}ifteen entities were ranked as high-priorities, including {D}isease {X} and 14 known pathologies (e.g. haemorrhagic fevers, various respiratory viral infections, arboviral infec-tions, multidrug-resistant bacterial infections, inva-sive meningococcal and pneumococcal diseases, prion diseases, rabies, and tuberculosis). {C}onclusion: {T}he priority entities agreed with those of the {WHO} in 2023; almost all were currently covered by the {F}rench surveillance and alert system. {R}epeating this analysis periodically would keep the list updated}, keywords = {{FRANCE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{E}urosurveillance}, volume = {29}, numero = {50}, pages = {2400074 [13 ]}, ISSN = {1025-496{X}}, year = {2024}, DOI = {10.2807/1560-7917.{E}s.2024.29.50.2400074}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010092696}, }
