@article{fdi:010092282, title = {{V}ariability of growth rates and thermohaline niches of {R}hizostoma pulmo's pelagic stages ({C}nidaria : {S}cyphozoa)}, author = {{L}eoni, {V}. and {M}olinero, {J}uan-{C}arlos and {M}effre, {M}. and {B}onnet, {D}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{I}n recent decades, an increase in the abundance and frequency of bloom events has been reported for the scyphozoan {R}hizostoma pulmo in the {M}editerranean {S}ea. {U}nderstanding such events requires a thorough assessment of the species' population dynamics through environmental windows allowing species development. {T}he semi-enclosed coastal lagoon of {B}ages {S}igean, {F}rance (43 degrees 05 ' 12.72 ' {N}; 3 degrees 00 ' 35.3 ' {E}) offers an exceptional framework for investigating the population dynamics of the species, and how its growth rates and environmental niches vary over time. {T}hree cohorts starting in {A}pril, {M}ay and {J}une 2019 were identified, while the overall population growth reached the maximum biomass (10.2 g m(-3)) in {J}uly. {B}ell diameter and total length were identified as the best morphological proxies of biomass estimation. {T}he abundances of the two most abundant copepods' species appear to drive {R}. pulmo's dynamics in the lagoon. {B}ased on multinomial analysis and using the von {B}ertalanffy model, different growth rates for juveniles (4.7 and 2.4 mm day(-1)) and adults (1.8 and 0.9 mm day(-1)) were determined for the first two cohorts. {T}hermohaline niches varied during ontogeny, but also among populations in three coastal {M}editerranean lagoons: {B}ages {S}igean ({F}rance), {M}ar {M}enor ({S}pain) and {B}izerte ({T}unisia), shedding light on the metapopulation dynamics of {R}. pulmo inhabiting the {M}editerranean {S}ea. {T}he pressing need for understanding the dynamics of jellyfish abundances and their impacts on ecosystems, calls for increased efforts on monitoring these populations and their life history traits to parametrize and build reliable ecosystem models.}, keywords = {{MEDITERRANEE} ; {FRANCE} ; {ESPAGNE} ; {TUNISIE} ; {BAGES} {SIGEAN} {ETANG} ; {MINEURE} {MER} ; {BIZERTE} {LAC}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{M}arine {B}iology}, volume = {168}, numero = {7}, pages = {107 [19 ]}, ISSN = {0025-3162}, year = {2021}, DOI = {10.1007/s00227-021-03914-y}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010092282}, }
