  abstract = {{A} new species of freshwater pipefish, {M}icrophis arrakisae sp. nov., is described from the {W}est {I}ndonesian {I}slands ({J}ava, {B}ali and {L}ombok). {T}his species is morphologically very close to {M}icrophis retzii ({B}leeker, 1856), which is found in the eastern {I}ndonesian {I}slands ({S}ulawesi, {C}eram, {A}mbon and {P}apua). {H}owever, it can be distinguished by its in vivo coloration. {F}urthermore, genetic analysis of the partial {COI} gene (barcoding) indicates that it represents a distinct genetic lineage in the {I}ndonesian region.},
