@article{fdi:010091478, title = {{R}esponse of {CO}2 fluxes to the ocean-atmosphere interaction processes in the {F}ernando de {N}oronha island}, author = {{A}lves, {L}.{H}.{B}. and {F}lores {M}ontes, {M}. and {L}ef{\`e}vre, {N}athalie and {L}uiz do {V}ale {S}ilva, {T}. and {L}opes, {F}. and {V}eleda, {D}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}his study investigates thermodynamic conditions and air-sea {CO}2fluxes in the {F}ernando de {N}oronha {I}sland region. {T}he analyses were based on coupled ocean-atmosphere modeling results for three periods of oceanographic cruises, {C}amadas {F}inas {I}, {C}amadas {F}inas {II}, and {C}amadas {F}inas {IV}, in 2010, 2012, and 2014. {T}he ocean-atmosphere modeling results correspond well with data from three oceanographic cruises around the island. {T}he modeled wind correlated well with the wind speed and direction values at 10m, with a statistical significance of 95%. {T}he presence of the island modifies the sea surface temperature and surface currents. {O}n the island's west side, ocean currents are weakened due to the physical barrier, and the sea surface temperature increases, indicating an island effect. {T}he island effect is also observed when analyzing vertical sections. {W}eather conditions in 2010 show that the air temperature was higher than in 2012 and 2014. {T}he atmosphere also exhibits an island effect, with the wind skirting the island's upper terrain and weakening on the leeward side. {T}he oceanic part shows the warming of the upper waters and the convergence of currents on the island's west side. {M}odeled ocean temperatures underestimate (~ -0.3 °{C}) observations, except to the west of the island (~ +0.3 °{C}), where model temperatures are higher than measurements. {C}alculation of the {FCO}2 bias (f{CO}2is the {CO}2fugacity with unit atm, and {FCO}2is the {CO}2flux) shows that the model underestimates the measurements by about 20 mmol m-2d-1. {T}he ocean was a source of {CO}2 during the three oceanographic cruise periods.}, keywords = {{BRESIL} ; {ATLANTIQUE} ; {FERNANDO} {DE} {NORONHA} {ARCHIPEL}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{T}ropical {O}ceanography}, volume = {50}, numero = {2}, pages = {1--33}, ISSN = {1679-3005}, year = {2023}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010091478}, }
