@inproceedings{fdi:010091405, title = {{LIMAQUA} : {A}frican interdisciplinary laboratory in sustainable, nutritition-sensitive marine aquaculture [r{\'e}sum{\'e}]}, author = {{M}acey, {B}.{M}. and {D}arias, {M}aria {J}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A}ccess to diverse, nutritious, safe, and affordable food is crucial to addressing malnutrition. {S}eafood is a vital source of essential nutrients and contributes to food and nutrition security in many countries. {H}owever, it is largely missing from key food policy dialogues. {I}n this sense, the need of reframing seafood as food - instead of as a natural resource - has been recognized and several key research topics, such as nutrition-sensitive approaches to seafood production, have been identified. {B}ased in {S}outh {A}frica, the {I}nternational {J}oint {L}aboratory {LIMAQUA} conducts an interdisciplinary research and training programme to tackle nutritional and sustainability challenges of marine aquaculture to contribute to food and nutrition security, poverty alleviation, and income creation in the region. {LIMAQUA} gathers an interdisciplinary team of scientists specializing in biology, biotechnology, socio economics, food science and human nutrition. {T}he research and training activities are grounded in the sustainability science approach, i.e. an inter- and transdisciplinary approach, co-constructed with academic, governmental, industrial, and civil society actors, and focus on sustainable solutions to problems of local and global importance. {M}ore specifically, {LIMAQUA} develops i) sustainable marine aquaculture practices for target species, ii) an integrated approach to marine aquaculture, iii) aquaculture-based food and nutritional products, iv) provides capacity-building & training, and v) fosters collaborations within {A}frica.}, keywords = {{AFRIQUE} {DU} {SUD}}, numero = {}, pages = {103}, booktitle = {14th {A}quaculture {A}ssociation of {S}outhern {A}frica {C}onference 2022}, year = {2022}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010091405}, }
