@article{fdi:010091283, title = {{S}eroprevalence of {SARS}-{C}o{V}-2 nucleocapsid antibody among sex workers during the 5th epidemic wave with {O}micron variant in {C}hiang {M}ai, {T}hailand}, author = {{H}ongjaisee, {S}. and {G}untala, {R}. and {T}angmunkongvorakul, {A}. and {N}go-{G}iang-{H}uong, {N}icole and {K}hamduang, {W}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{O}bjectives: {T}o investigate the seroprevalence of {SARS}-{C}o{V}-2 nucleocapsid antibodies ({NC}-{A}b) in sex workers. {M}ethods: {A} cross-sectional/observational study was conducted between {M}arch and {D}ecember 2022 among sex workers living in {C}hiangmai, {T}hailand, aged over 18 years and who had engaged in sex work in the previous 12 months. {C}onsenting individuals completed a questionnaire and had blood drawn. {I}g{G}-specific for {SARS}-{C}o{V}-2 nucleocapsid was assessed using {E}uroimmun anti-{SARS}-{C}o{V}-2 {NCP} {ELISA} ({I}g{G}). {R}esults: 264 sex workers (52.3 % male) with a median age 31 years were included. {T}he overall seroprevalence of {SARS}-{C}o{V}-2 {NC}-{A}b was 42.4 % (44.2 % in males, 40.5 % in females). {I}t was significantly higher among non-{T}hai than {T}hai sex workers (57.1 % vs. 37.1 %, p = 0.004) and among individuals who reported a history of {COVID}-19 as compared those who did not (54.9 % vs. 34.3 %, p = 0.036). {NC}-{A}b seroprevalence did not differ by sex, age, receipt of {COVID}-19 vaccines, or the number of vaccine doses. {SARS}-{C}o{V}-2 {NC}-{A}b seropositivity was significantly associated with being non-{T}hai, having monthly income >15,000 {B}aht, having received inactivated {COVID}-19 vaccines, and having been diagnosed with {COVID}-19. {C}onclusions: {T}his study shows a high seroprevalence of {NC}-{A}b among sex workers in {C}hiangmai, {T}hailand during the fifth epidemic wave with {O}micron variant. {T}his may be due to combined effects of high transmissibility of the {O}micron variant and high-risk behavior of those individuals. {S}pecific health education interventions are needed for this specific population.}, keywords = {{S}eroprevalence ; {SARS}-{C}o{V}-2 antibodies ; {S}ex workers ; {COVID}-19 ; {T}hailand ; {A}nti-nucleocapsid ; {THAILANDE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{H}eliyon}, volume = {10}, numero = {17}, pages = {e36807 [8 ]}, year = {2024}, DOI = {10.1016/j.heliyon.2024.e36807}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010091283}, }
