@article{fdi:010091025, title = {{HIV} and induced abortion among migrants from sub-{S}aharan {A}frica living in {I}le-de-{F}rance : results of the {PARCOURS} study}, author = {{P}ilecco, {F}. {B}. and {R}avalihasy, {A}ndrainolo and {G}uillaume, {A}gn{\`e}s and {D}esgr{\'e}es du {L}oû, {A}nnabel}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{I}ntroduction: {HIV} heavily affects sub-{S}aharan {A}frican women living in {F}rance and can impact reproductive decisions. {I}t was investigated whether {HIV} was associated with induced abortion in pregnancies held after migration by women from sub-{S}aharan {A}frica living in {I} le-de-{F}rance. {M}ethods: {W}e used data on {ANRS} {P}arcours, a retrospective life event survey conducted in health facilities in the metropolitan region of {P}aris, between {F}ebruary 2012 and {M}ay 2013, with migrants from sub-{S}aharan {A}frica. {D}ata on the history of pregnancies were collected among women living with {HIV} ({HIV} group) and those attending primary care centers (reference group). {W}e investigated 242 women in the reference group, who had 729 pregnancies, and the 277 women in the {HIV} group, who had 580 pregnancies. {T}he association between abortion and {HIV} was evaluated using clustered logistic models, successively adjusted for women and pregnancy characteristics, for the whole sample, and stratified by pregnancy intendedness. {R}esults: {I}n the reference group, 11.0 % of pregnancies were terminated in abortion, the same situation as 14.1 % in the {HIV} group ( p = 0.124). {HIV} was not associated with abortion in the crude and adjusted models. {H}owever, after adjustments, {HIV} exhibited a non-significant trend towards reducing the likelihood of abortion, particularly when considering the intendedness of pregnancy variable. {C}onclusions: {F}actors that shape the overall context of women 's lives and pregnancies, which are shared with the reference group, may have a more significant impact on reproductive decision-making than {HIV} alone. {H}ealth services must pay attention to the intendedness of pregnancies, providing advice and support on the prevention of mother-to-child transmission to women living with {HIV} who intend to become pregnant, in addition to strengthening the provision of family planning and the prevention of unintended pregnancies.}, keywords = {{I}nduced abortion ; {HIV} ; {M}igrants ; {I}ntended pregnancy ; {M}istimed pregnancy ; {U}nwanted pregnancy ; {AFRIQUE} {SUBSAHARIENNE} ; {FRANCE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{J}ournal of {M}igration and {H}ealth}, volume = {10}, numero = {}, pages = {100237 [6 p.]}, ISSN = {2666-6235}, year = {2024}, DOI = {10.1016/j.jmh.2024.100237}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010091025}, }
