@article{fdi:010090791, title = {{I}nvestigation of caliciviruses and astroviruses in {G}abonese rodents : a possible influence of national and international trade on the spread of enteric viruses}, author = {{M}bou-{B}outambe, {C}. and {M}ombo, {I}. {M}. and {R}ougeron, {V}. and {D}egrugillier, {F}. and {G}authier, {P}hilippe and {M}akanga, {B}. and {N}goubangoye, {B}. and {L}eroy, {E}ric and {P}rugnolle, {F}. and {B}oundenga, {L}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{C}aliciviruses ( {C}aliciviridae ) and astroviruses ( {A}stroviridae ) are among the leading cause of non-bacterial foodborne disease and gastroenteritis in human. {T}hese non -enveloped {RNA} viruses infect a wide range of vertebrate species including rodents. {R}odents are among the most important hosts of infectious diseases globally and are responsible for over 80 zoonotic pathogens that affect humans. {T}herefore, screening pathogens in rodents will be is necessary to prevent cross -species transmission to prevent zoonotic outbreaks. {I}n the present study, we screened caliciviruses and astroviruses in order to describe their diversity and whether they harbor strains that can infect humans. {RNA} was then extracted from intestine samples of 245 rodents and retrotranscribed in c{DNA} to screen caliciviruses and astroviruses by {PCR}s. {A}ll the samples tested negative for caliciviruses and while astroviruses were detected in 18 (7.3%) samples of {R}attus rattus species. {P}hylogenetic analyses based on the {R}d{R}p gene showed that all the sequences belonged to {M}amastrovirus genus in which they were genetically related to {R}. rattus related {A}st{V}s previously detected in {G}abon or in {R}attus spp. {A}st{V} from {K}enya and {A}sia. {T}hese findings suggested that transportation such as land and railway, as well national and international trade, are likely to facilitate spread of {A}st{V}s by the dissemination of rodents.}, keywords = {{A}strovirus ; {C}alicivirus ; {R}odent ; {R}ural areas ; {Z}oonoses ; {G}abon ; {GABON}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{I}nfection {G}enetics and {E}volution}, volume = {122}, numero = {}, pages = {105607 [8 p.]}, ISSN = {1567-1348}, year = {2024}, DOI = {10.1016/j.meegid.2024.105607}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010090791}, }
