@article{fdi:010090606, title = {{D}iversity and distribution of mesozooplankton in the coastal {S}outhwestern {M}editerranean {A}lboran {S}ea, during summer : what are the driving factors ?}, author = {{B}enallal, {M}. {R}. and {E}rrhif, {A}. and {S}omoue, {L}. and {L}aabir, {M}ohamed and {D}emarcq, {H}erv{\'e} and {I}drissi, {M}. and {A}gouzouk, {A}. and {G}oliat, {Y}. and {I}dmoussi, {H}. and {M}akaoui, {A}. and {E}ttahiri, {O}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he southern {A}lboran {S}ea is a dynamic ecosystem and is highly influenced by {A}tlantic waters. {U}nfortunately, despite the importance of the mesozooplankton in this ecosystem, the number of studies on this ecosystem is low. {T}he composition and abundance of mesozooplankton communities were studied during the summer season ({J}uly 2017) along the {M}oroccan {M}editerranean coast between {M}'diq and {S}a & iuml;dia. {A} total of 14 mesozooplankton groups were identified and were dominated by copepods (48%) and cladocerans (35%). {A}bundance and biomass spatial distribution distinguished two main regions east and west of {A}l {H}oceima. {T}he same distribution pattern was observed when using copepod and cladoceran abundance. {E}nvironmental parameters (temperature, salinity, and nutrients) differed in these two regions. {O}ur results confirm the hypothesis that the water flux from the {A}tlantic {O}cean is responsible for the eastward gradients of the mesozooplankton abundance and diversity. {C}opepods were the most diversified group with 27 species, dominated by {P}aracalanus parvus (30.5%), {T}emora stylifera (14%), and {O}ncaea venusta (12.4%). {T}he diversity index ({H}') of copepods varied between 1.35 and 2.8 bits ind-1, and the regularity index ({J}) varied between 0.21 and 0.45, without a remarkable longitudinal gradient. {M}ultivariate analysis showed that the mesozooplankton biomass, abundance, and distribution were influenced mainly by hydrology (gyres), by temperature and salinity, and to a lesser degree by phytoplankton.}, keywords = {mesozooplankton ; copepods ; abundance ; diversity ; {S}outhwestern {A}lboran {S}ea ; {M}editerranean {S}ea ; {M}orocco ; {MEDITERRANEE} ; {MAROC} ; {ALBORAN} {MER}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{J}ournal of {M}arine {S}cience and {E}ngineering}, volume = {12}, numero = {4}, pages = {674 [19 p.]}, year = {2024}, DOI = {10.3390/jmse12040674}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010090606}, }
