@article{fdi:010090193, title = {{R}esponses to hospital restrictions on family visits during the {COVID}-19 epidemic in {M}ali and {F}rance}, author = {{C}oulibaly, {A}. and {C}habrol, {F}anny and {T}oure, {L}. and {H}ou, {R}enyou and {D}rame, {B}. {S}. {I}. and {Z}inszer, {K}. and {R}idde, {V}al{\'e}ry}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{F}ew studies have focused on the presence of families in the hospital in the context of an epidemic. {T}he present study aims to contribute to filling this gap by answering the following question: {H}ow did professionals, patients and their families cope with more or less drastic restrictions to family visits and presence during the {COVID}-19 pandemic in a {F}rench and a {M}alian hospital during the {COVID}-19 pandemic? {D}ata were collected during the first two waves of the pandemic through 111 semi-structured interviews ({F}rance = 55, {M}ali = 56). {M}ost of the interviews were conducted with staff (n = 103), but also with families in the case of {M}ali (n = 8). {T}he investigators also conducted 150 days of field observations, 44 in {F}rance and 106 in {M}ali. {T}hematic analysis was applied using an inductive approach. {I}nterviews were content analyzed to identify passages in the interviews that were relevant to these different themes. {T}he study highlighted the difficulty for the medical-clinical system to provide appropriate responses to the many emotional needs of patients in a pandemic context. {F}amilies in {F}rance benefited from a support service to reduce stress, while in {M}ali, no initiative was taken in this sense. {I}n both countries, families often used the telephone as an alternative means of communicating with relatives. {T}he results showed that in the two contexts, the presence and involvement of the families contributed to a better response to the patients' psycho-affective demands and thus promoted resilience in this field.}, keywords = {{COVID}-19 ; family visits ; {F}rance ; hospitals ; {M}ali ; resilience ; {MALI} ; {FRANCE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{H}ealth {S}ystems and {R}eform}, volume = {9}, numero = {2}, pages = {2241188 [7 ]}, ISSN = {2328-8604}, year = {2023}, DOI = {10.1080/23288604.2023.2241188}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010090193}, }
