@article{fdi:010090116, title = {{P}otential to produce brown mussel integrated to a net-cage fish farm in a {M}editerranean bay}, author = {{M}edhioub, {W}. and {C}hallouf, {R}. and {L}aabir, {M}ohamed and {L}imayem, {Y}. and {B}chir, {S}. and {S}limeni, {W}. and {E}l {A}mri, {D}. and {H}amza, {A}. and {M}ahfoudhi, {M}. and {L}eblad, {B}. {R}. and {M}edhioub, {M}. {N}. and {A}badie, {E}. and {R}olland, {J}. {L}. and {A}zaza, {M}. {S}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{I}n this study, we investigated the potential exploitation of the brown mussel {P}erna perna ({L}innaeus, 1758) in an aquaculture farm ({M}onastir {B}ay, {M}editerranean {S}ea, {T}unisia). {T}he quality of seawater as well as performance indicators such as {C}ondition {I}ndex, length, weight, growth and frequency distribution of the mussel were determined over an annual cycle; from {J}uly 2017 to {A}ugust 2018. {I}nterestingly, {P}. perna has an extended sexual cycle during the year with two main spawning periods, the first in spring and the second in autumn, when suspended matter and {C}hlorophyll a were at their maximum concentrations in seawater. {S}pat mussels and young mussels showed significant growth rates from 1 {J}uly 2017 to 31 {O}ctober 2017. {A}dult mussels exhibited negative allometric growth and a modal size of 41 to 50 mm. {R}esults showed that several potentially toxic microalgae species developed at low densities in this marine zone. {B}y using {S}olid {P}hase {A}dsorption {T}oxins {T}racker ({SPATT}); lipophilic toxins including {O}kadaic acid and yessotoxins were detected at low levels in seawater and may be involved in the positive {LST}s (lipophilic shellfish toxins) mouse bioassays in {P}. perna during the autumn. {N}o other toxins such as paralytic shellfish toxins or amnesic shellfish toxins nor pathogenic bacteria or viruses were detected in {P}. perna. {A}ltogether, our results suggest that finfish farms in {M}onastir {B}ay could be suitable sites for farming {P}. perna.}, keywords = {{B}rown mussel ; growth performance ; {P}otentially toxic microalgae ; {M}icrobiological contamination ; {M}editerranean bay ; {TUNISIE} ; {MEDITERRANEE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{A}quaculture {R}eports}, volume = {31}, numero = {}, pages = {101674 [14 ]}, ISSN = {2352-5134}, year = {2023}, DOI = {10.1016/j.aqrep.2023.101674}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010090116}, }
