@article{fdi:010089746, title = {{A}n eco-friendly extraction and purification approach for obtaining active ingredients for cosmetics from two marine brown seaweeds}, author = {{G}ager, {L}. and {C}onnan, {S}. and {C}{\'e}rantola, {S}. and {P}etek, {S}ylvain and {C}outeau, {C}. and {C}oiffard, {L}. and {S}tiger-{P}ouvreau, {V}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{B}rown seaweeds are attracting attention due to their richness in bioactive compounds, in particular, their phlorotannins. {W}e present here a case study of two {F}ucales, {A}scophyllum nodosum and {H}alidrys siliquosa, sustainably collected, to produce active polyphenols for the cosmetics sector. {P}henolic contents of crude extracts, obtained by {A}ccelerated {S}olvent {E}xtraction ({ASE}), were more elevated in {H}. siliquosa at 100.05 mg/g dry weight ({DW}) than in {A}. nodosum (29.51 mg/g {DW}), considering 3 cycles with cell inversion. {T}he temperature of extraction for a high phenolic content and high associated antioxidant activities close to positive controls was 150 degrees {C} for both algae and the use of only one cycle was enough. {A} semi-purification process using {S}olid-phase {E}xtraction ({SPE}) was carried out on both {ASE} crude extracts (one per species). {T}he majority of phlorotannins were found in the ethanolic {SPE} fraction for {A}. nodosum and the hydroethanolic one for {H}. siliquosa. {T}he {SPE} process allowed us to obtain more concentrated fractions of active phenolic compounds (x1.8 and 2 in {A}. nodosum and {H}. siliquosa, respectively). {R}esults are discussed in regard to the exploitation of seaweeds in {B}rittany and to the research of sustainable processes to produce active natural ingredients for cosmetics.}, keywords = {active and valuable ingredient ; cosmetic ; green extraction and ; purification ; macroalgae ; {NMR} follow-up ; polyphenols}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{M}arine {D}rugs}, volume = {22}, numero = {3}, pages = {112 [21 p.]}, year = {2024}, DOI = {10.3390/md22030112}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010089746}, }
