@article{fdi:010089638, title = {{D}esigning intervention prototypes to improve infant and young child nutrition in {P}eru : a participatory design study protocol}, author = {{R}ousham, {E}. and {P}areja, {R}. {G}. and {C}reed-{K}anashiro, {H}. {M}. and {B}artolini, {R}. and {P}radeilles, {R}ebecca and {O}rtega-{R}oman, {D}. and {H}oldsworth, {M}ichelle and {G}riffiths, {P}. and {V}erdezoto, {N}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{I}ntroduction {N}utrition during the complementary feeding period (6-23 months) is critical to ensure optimal growth and reduce the risk of diet-related disease across the life course. {S}trategies to reduce multiple forms of malnutrition (stunting, overweight/obesity and anaemia) in infants and young children ({IYC}) are a key priority in low-income and middle-income countries, including {P}eru. {T}his study aims to co-design and develop prototypes for interventions to address the multiple forms of malnutrition in {IYC} in urban {P}eru, using a participatory design approach. {M}ethods and analysis {T}he study will be based within peri-urban communities in two areas of {P}eru ({L}ima and {H}uanuco city). {F}ollowing the identification of key nutritional challenges for {IYC} aged 6-23 months through formative research (phase {I}), we will conduct a series of workshops bringing together healthcare professionals from government health centres and caregivers of {IYC} aged 6-23 months. {W}orkshops (on idea generation; creating future scenarios; storyboarding and early implementation and feedback) will take place in parallel in the two study areas. {T}hrough these workshops, we will engage with community participants to explore, experiment, co-design and iteratively validate new design ideas to address the challenges around {IYC} complementary feeding from phase {I}. {W}orkshop outputs and transcripts will be analysed qualitatively using affinity diagramming and thematic analyses. {T}he intervention prototypes will be evaluated qualitatively and piloted with the participating communities. {E}thics and dissemination {E}thical approval for this study was obtained from the {E}thical {R}eview {C}ommittee of the {I}nstituto de {I}nvestigaci & oacute;n {N}utricional ({IIN}) {P}eru (388-2019/{CIEI}-{IIN}), {L}oughborough {U}niversity ({C}19-87) and confirmed by {C}ardiff {U}niversity. {F}indings of the participatory design process will be disseminated through a deliberative workshop in {L}ima, {P}eru with national and regional government stakeholders, as well as participants and researchers involved in the design process. {F}urther dissemination will take place through policy briefs, conferences and academic publications.}, keywords = {nutrition & dietetics ; community child health ; public health ; health ; policy ; {PEROU}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{BMJ} {O}pen}, volume = {13}, numero = {12}, pages = {e071280 [8 p.]}, ISSN = {2044-6055}, year = {2023}, DOI = {10.1136/bmjopen-2022-071280}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010089638}, }
