@article{fdi:010088938, title = {{S}tructural evolution of the southern {E}cuadorian forearc in the {S}anta {E}lena {P}eninsula region}, author = {{B}ulois, {C}. and {S}aillard, {M}arianne and {E}spurt, {N}. and {B}enítez, {P}. {R}. and {M}ichaud, {F}. and {B}arba, {D}. and {P}euzin, {A}. and {S}alazar, {M}. {J}. {H}. and {S}chenini, {L}aure and {R}{\'e}gnier, {M}arc and {R}atzov, {G}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he southern {E}cuadorian forearc system is related to the subduction of the oceanic {F}arallon/{N}azca {P}late beneath the continental {S}outh {A}merican {P}late since the {L}ate {C}retaceous, and currently evolves with the dynamic of a tectonic block called {N}orth {A}ndean {S}liver. {T}o explore the structural architecture and processes controlling the {U}pper {C}retaceous-{C}enozoic growth of the forearc, we built a similar to 143 km-long onshore-offshore crustal-scale crosssection in the {S}anta {E}lena {P}eninsula region using seismic reflection profiles and well and field data. {T}he structure of the {S}anta {E}lena {P}eninsula forearc system is controlled by imbrication of {U}pper {C}retaceous-{P}alaeocene oceanic basement and {C}enozoic sedimentary units, and underplating of distal {C}enozoic sequences stacked at the trench zone. {T}his led to the progressive construction of an accretionary wedge through time. {T}he forearc substratum is mainly formed by the {U}pper {C}retaceous-{P}alaeocene basement developed during the docking of oceanic terranes. {I}t is later deformed by {NW}-trending landward-dipping, normal to strike-slip faults during the {M}iddle {E}ocene, and renewed compression by inversion of inherited faults from the {O}ligocene onwards. {R}ecent deformation consists in {N}-trending oceanward-dipping normal faults in the frontal slope domain and fault-controlled uplift of marine terraces along the coastal area. {T}herefore, the {U}pper {C}retaceous to present-day structural evolution of the {S}anta {E}lena {P}eninsula forearc is controlled by the long-lasting subduction dynamics and structural inheritance of the upper plate.}, keywords = {{F}orearc ; {S}tructural inheritance ; {N}orthern {A}ndes ; {E}cuador ; {EQUATEUR} ; {ANDES}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{J}ournal of {S}outh {A}merican {E}arth {S}ciences}, volume = {130}, numero = {}, pages = {104503 [16 ]}, ISSN = {0895-9811}, year = {2023}, DOI = {10.1016/j.jsames.2023.104503}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010088938}, }
