@article{fdi:010088868, title = {{H}ydrological assessment of different satellite precipitation products in semi-arid basins in {M}orocco}, author = {{E}l {K}halki, {E}. and {T}ramblay, {Y}ves and {S}aidi, {M}. {E}. and {M}archane, {A}. and {C}hehbouni, {A}bdelghani}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{I}n data-sparse regions and in developing countries such as {M}orocco, where flooding has serious socio-economic impacts, satellite-based precipitation products open new possibilities for monitoring and modelling water resources and floods. {T}he objective of the study is to explore the possibility of using satellite precipitation products ({SPP}s) with hydrological models ({CREST} and {MISD}c) over 9 basins in {M}orocco. {T}his work provides a hydrological assessment of three {SPP}s that have demonstrated good capabilities in reproducing precipitation over different basins in {M}orocco ({GPM} {IMERG} - {PERSIANN} {CDR} ({PERCDR}) and {CHIRPS}). {T}he two hydrological models are coupled with a stochastic calibration method to provide the different ranges of uncertainties. {I}n addition, we investigate the ability of {SPP}s on reproducing the {N}ovember 2014 flood event that affected a large part of {M}orocco. {T}he results indicated that, in calibration, both hydrological models provided similar performance to reproduce river discharge with observed precipitation or {PERSIANN} {CDR}. {I}n validation, the combination of the {MISD}c model with {PERSIANN} {CDR} performed the best, notably allowing a good simulation of the flood hydrographs during the {N}ovember 2014 event. {F}uture analysis of relationships between {SPP}s, basin properties, and hydrological modelling technique will allow to find the appropriate combination for different application purposes.}, keywords = {floods ; {M}orocco ; {MISD}c ; {PERSIANN} {CDR} ; discharge ; {MAROC}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{F}rontiers in {W}ater}, volume = {5}, numero = {}, pages = {1243251 [13 p.]}, year = {2023}, DOI = {10.3389/frwa.2023.1243251}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010088868}, }
