@article{fdi:010088799, title = {{A}scension du mont {B}lanc (4808 m) : quels risques prend-on dans le {G}rand {C}ouloir du {G}oƻter et dans la face nord du mont {B}lanc du {T}acul ?}, author = {{R}avanel, {L}. and {M}ourey, {J}. and {T}amian, {L}. and {I}banez, {S}. and {H}antz, {D}. and {L}acroix, {P}ascal and {D}uvillard, {P}. {A}.}, editor = {}, language = {{FRE}}, abstract = {{M}ountaineering is a sport highly dependent on the conditions of the physical environments in which it takes place. {A}s a result, mountaineers have to deal with major glacial and periglacial hazards, such as those affecting the two main routes used to climb {M}ont {B}lanc (4808 m a.s.l.; {W}estern {E}uropean {A}lps): rockfalls in the {G}rand {C}ouloir du {G}outer on the {V}oie {R}oyale and serac falls on the {NNW} slope of {M}ont {B}lanc du {T}acul on the {T}rois {M}onts route. {H}azards in these two sectors and the number of climbers were measured using a multi-sensor system and automatic photographic acquisition, respectively. {O}n the first site, which has a very high accident rate with an average of 3.7 deaths per year, 17,768 passages were recorded during the summer of 2019 and 2,648 seismic signals were classified as rockfalls affecting the {G}rand {C}ouloir. {T}he average risk of death associated with these rockfalls, the frequency of which depends on temperatures and the presence of liquid water in the ground, is estimated at 1.7 x 10-4. {A}t {T}acul, where an average of 0.6 deaths occur each year, 6,770 passages were recorded during the summer of 2017, as well as 31 serac falls unrelated to temperatures. {T}he risk of death is 8.3 x 10-5. {T}he risk is also quantified for each track made on the glacier. {T}he results obtained makes it possible to specify the risks experienced by climbers and to promote risk reduction strategies.}, keywords = {{M}ountaineering ; serac fall ; rockfall ; risks ; {M}ont {B}lanc ; {FRANCE} ; {ALPES}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{R}evue de {G}{\'e}ographie {A}lpine = {J}ournal of {A}lpine {R}esearch}, volume = {111}, numero = {2}, pages = {11765 [19 p.]}, ISSN = {0035-1121}, year = {2023}, DOI = {10.4000/rga.11728}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010088799}, }
