    <abstract>Groundwaters are the most useful water reserve for the populations of the west-central groundnut basin, where surface water resources are temporary and the deep aquifer is difficult to access and of poor quality. In this Sahelian millet-producing area, soil moisture dynamics are an important factor in agricultural yields. And trees, by their ability to provide shade due to canopy and their hydraulic lift properties of their deep roots, are possible assets for managing water useful for crops. Therefore, knowledge of the dynamics of infiltration and lateral surface runoff is essential for a better understanding of the relationship between surface water and water in the soil profile. The study area covers the Sob and Diohine catchments of 86,03km2 and 112,4km2 respectively in the Population, Health and Environment Observatory of Niakhar (OPSE). Our observations are based on the monitoring of the variation of the Static Level (SL), the conductivity and the salinity of a network of 231 wells distributed in the studied basins, coupled with an experimental device of 6 piezometers on a toposequence of 370 m long. The study shows a strong mineralization of the aquifers with salinity rates up to 2.5%, despite agroundwater recharge directly linked to the rainwater infiltration. There is a very high local heterogeneity of salt contents in the wells, which seems to underline the multiple origins of the salt, and a relative homogeneity of the static levels is noted.</abstract>
