@article{fdi:010087504, title = {{A}bundance and distribution of potentially toxic phytoplankton in aquaculture sites along the {P}eruvian coast}, author = {{C}uellar-{M}artinez, {T}. and {O}choa, {A}. {D}. {H}. and {S}anchez, {S}. and {A}guirre-{V}elarde, {A}. and {O}cas, {E}. {O}. {M}. and {Q}uerevalu, {R}. {I}. {S}. and {C}olas, {F}ran{\c{c}}ois and {T}am, {J}. and {G}utierrez, {D}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he presence of harmful microalgae in aquaculture sites represents a risk for production and human health, so surveillance of these species is relevant for early warning of harmful algal blooms. {H}ere we examine the monitoring results of potentially toxic phytoplankton in {P}eruvian coastal sites associated with the cultivation of {A}rgopecten purpuratus and natural banks of other mollusks. {W}e evaluated the density, frequency, temporal and spatial distribution of these species, as well as blooms occurred from 2011 to 2019. {R}esults showed that the most abundant species was {H}eterosigma akashiwo, and the most frequent ones were {P}seudo-nitzschia delicatisima and seriata complexes. {T}he majority of blooms were caused by {H}. akashiwo (21 events) and {D}inophysis acuminata (19 events). {C}anonical correspondence analysis revealed the preference of dinoflagellates to warmer sea surface temperatures and more stable conditions (indicated by low wind velocities) than {P}seudo-nitzschia species. {G}eneralized additive models ({GAM}s) indicated that wind velocities > 3.7 m s-1 and {E}l {N}in similar to o conditions favor {P}seudo-nitzschia species while warm temperatures (> 20 degrees {C}), weaker winds (< 3.7 m s-1), and cold periods associated with {L}a {N}in similar to a promoted higher densities of {D}. acuminata complex. {A} recent increasing trend in the density of {D}. acuminata was observed. {T}his information is useful to understand the dynamics of potentially toxic species in upwelling regions.}, keywords = {{H}armful microalgae ; {A}lgal blooms ; {H}eterosigma akashiwo ; {H}umboldt current system ; {U}pwelling ; {P}hycotoxins ; {PEROU} ; {PACIFIQUE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{J}ournal of {M}arine {S}ystems}, volume = {240}, numero = {}, pages = {[14 ]}, ISSN = {0924-7963}, year = {2023}, DOI = {10.1016/j.jmarsys.2023.103865}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010087504}, }
