@article{fdi:010087425, title = {{D}iversity of the genus {A}vrainvillea ({D}ichotomosiphonaceae, {C}hlorophyta) : new insights and eight new species}, author = {{L}agourgue, {L}. and {R}ousseau, {F}. and {Z}ubia, {M}. and {P}ayri, {C}laude}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A}vrainvillea is a green macroalgal genus of the family {D}ichotomosiphonaceae (order {B}ryopsidales). {M}any species have been morphologically described, but few studies have addressed the genetic diversity of this genus. {B}ased on a rich collection of specimens from the tropical {W}estern {A}tlantic, {I}ndian and {P}acific {O}ceans, we aimed to (1) reassess {A}vrainvillea species diversity through species delimitation analyses, (2) update their distribution ranges, (3) reconstruct the species phylogenetic relationships, based on a concatenated multilocus matrix (tuf{A}, rbc{L} and 18{S} r{DNA}) and (4) revise their taxonomy and describe new species where necessary. {O}ur species delimitation approach highlighted 23 secondary species hypotheses in our collection, including nine known and currently accepted species, four species complexes ({A}. amadelpha, {A}. lacerata, {A}. erecta-obscura and {A}. mazei-nigricans), and eight new species for which we provide descriptions: {A}. laciniata ({P}apua {N}ew {G}uinea), {A}. minima and {A}. pyrochroma ({M}adagascar), {A}. mollis and {A}. kanakiensis ({N}ew {C}aledonia), {A}. pavonina ({F}iji), {A}. spongiosa ({P}acific) and {A}. corticata ({I}ndo-{P}acific). {W}e also propose the resurrection of {A}. gracillima {B}orgesen, the reinstatement of {A}vrainvillea lacerata var. robustior {A}.{G}epp & {E}.{S}.{G}epp, and the synonymy of {A}. rotumensis {A}.{D}.{R}.{N}'{Y}eurt, {D}.{S}.{L}ittler & {L}ittler with {A}. pacifica {A}.{G}epp & {E}.{S}.{G}epp. {W}e complemented the taxonomic work by providing a contemporary dichotomous key for morphological identification of all extant species. {O}ur multilocus phylogeny included 25 species of {D}ichotomosiphonaceae and recovered {A}vrainvillea as a polyphyletic group, divided into three distinct clades, with {C}ladocephalus luteofuscus positioned within the group. {T}he species determined using the species delimitation approach were all monophyletic and 19 of them were highly supported. {F}or the first time, this study also provided genetic sequences for {A}. asarifolia, {A}. clavatiramea, {A}. digitata, {A}. elliottii, {A}. fulva, {A}. gracillima, {A}. geppiorum, {A}. pacifica and {A}. obscura.}, keywords = {{B}iodiversity ; green macroalgae ; {I}ndo-{P}acific ; species delimitation ; systematics ; {T}ropical {A}tlantic ; {OCEAN} {INDIEN} ; {PACIFIQUE} ; {ATLANTIQUE} ; {ZONE} {TROPICALE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{E}uropean {J}ournal of {P}hycology}, volume = {[{E}arly access]}, numero = {}, pages = {[28 p.]}, ISSN = {0967-0262}, year = {2023}, DOI = {10.1080/09670262.2023.2164907}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010087425}, }
