  abstract = {{W}e present a list of tree species of {F}rench {G}uiana, based on data collected from herbarium specimens and tree inventories, and verified against all available taxonomic literature to date. {T}he list contains 1811 taxa representing 87 families and 421 genera, including 143 unnamed species which either may be species not previously recorded in {F}rench {G}uiana, or taxa new to {S}cience. {O}riginal demographic data such as global abundance, local maximum frequency and geographic dispersion, are given for the 1293 species present in tree inventories. {O}ur work has led to the recognition of certain taxonomic and nomenclatural novelties, including a new combination in {L}ecythis {L}oefl. ({L}ecythidaceae), several lectotypifications and new synonyms, as well as reinstatement of {S}loanea acutiflora {U}ittien ({E}laeocarpaceae), {E}ugenia sinemariensis {A}ubl. ({M}yrtaceae), and four species of {I}nga ({L}eguminosae). {I}n addition, we provide the most comprehensive list available to date of corresponding vernacular names (4354 for 1157 species) in nine languages spoken in {F}rench {G}uiana: {P}alikur, {K}ali'na, {T}eko, {W}ayapi, {W}ayana, {N}engee tongo ({A}luku/{N}djuka/{P}aramaka), {C}reole, {F}rench, and {B}rasilian {P}ortuguese. {T}he checklist is complemented by indexes of exsiccata, vernacular names and scientific names. {T}he introductory part is available in {F}rench and {E}nglish.},
