@article{fdi:010086148, title = {{D}iversity of {A}nopheles {G}ambiae s.l., {G}iles ({D}iptera : {C}ulicidae) larval habitats in urban areas and malaria transmission in {B}ouake, {C}ote d'{I}voire}, author = {{A}dja, {A}. {M}. and {Z}oh, {D}. {D}. and {S}agna, {A}. {B}. and {K}pan, {D}. {M}. {S}. and {G}uindo-{C}oulibaly, {N}. and {Y}api, {A}. and {C}handre, {F}abrice}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{M}alaria vectors are supposedly uncommon in urban areas owing to the lack of suitable breeding sites for their development. {H}owever, the maintenance in urban areas of traditional rural practices along with humanitarian crisis can create favorable conditions for malaria transmission. {T}his study aimed to provide relevant entomological data on the risk of malaria transmission in the city of {B}ouake, after the military-political crisis from 2002 to 2011 in {C}ote d'{I}voire. {A}dults mosquitoes were collected by human landing catches in {D}ar {E}s {S}alam, {K}ennedy and {N}'gattakro neighborhoods. {P}otential breeding sites were georeferenced and mapped using a {GPS}. {M}osquito species were identified morphologically and by molecular methods. {P}lasmodium infections were detected by quantitative {PCR}. {A}nopheline larvae were found in rice and vegetable crops, puddles, and footprints. {A} total of 939 {A}nopheles gambiae s.l. were caught during the surveys. {T}he average human biting rate was 8.8 bites/person/night. {T}he {A}. gambiae s.l. species were {A}. gambiae s.s (89.6%) and {A}nopheles coluzzii (10.4%). {T}he average infectivity rate was 0.74% and the average annual entomological inoculation rate was estimated at 19 infected bites/person/year ranging from 0 in {D}ar {E}s {S}alam and {N}'gattakro to 58 in {K}ennedy. {T}he risk of malaria transmission exists in {B}ouake city, although {P}lasmodium infections are low.}, keywords = {malaria ; urban ; transmission ; vector ; larvae ; habitats ; {COTE} {D}'{IVOIRE} ; {BOUAKE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{V}ector-{B}orne and {Z}oonotic {D}iseases}, volume = {21}, numero = {8}, pages = {593--601}, ISSN = {1530-3667}, year = {2021}, DOI = {10.1089/vbz.2020.2728}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010086148}, }
