@article{fdi:010086105, title = {{I}nventory and ecological characterization of ichthyofauna of nine lakes in the {A}damawa region ({N}orthern {C}ameroon, {C}entral {A}frica)}, author = {{K}itio, {H}. {I}. and {B}itja {N}yom, {A}.{R}. and {P}ariselle, {A}ntoine and {B}ilong {B}ilong, {C}.{F}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}he fish diversity of the {A}damawa lakes is among the most undocumented in {N}orthern {C}ameroon. {F}aced with this lack of knowledge, an inventory of ichthyofauna and habitats characterization was conducted in nine lakes. {S}even lakes ({A}ssom, {G}egouba, {M}assote, {M}balang, {N}gaoundaba, {P}iou and {T}izong) are located in the {S}anaga {B}asin and two ({B}ini and {D}ang) are located in the {L}ake {C}had {B}asin. {I}n order to assess the composition and variation in fish assemblage, eight sampling campaigns were carried out seasonally between 2017 and 2018; they revealed 26 species of fish distributed in 6 orders, 9 families and 16 genera. {C}ommunities in {L}akes {A}ssom (13 species) and {B}ini (9 species) were the most diverse. {O}mnivorous (42.3%) and spawners in open water or on substrates of sand, gravel, rock or plants (69.2%) were the most represented. {N}onmetric multidimensional scaling, analysis of similarities ({ANOSIM}), and similarity percentage analysis ({SIMPER}) revealed that fish species composition differed significantly among lakes. {C}anonical correspondence analysis ({CCA}) identified temperature, p{H}, {TDS}, and conductivity as variables explaining the most variation in fish species. {T}he presence of four endemic species in the {S}anaga {B}asin in lakes {A}ssom, {G}egouba, {M}assote and {P}iou, shows that these lakes stand out as hotspots for conservation due to the uniqueness of their ichthyofauna.}, keywords = {diversity ; distribution ; fish species ; limnology ; {N}gaoundere ; {CAMEROUN} ; {ADAMAOUA} ; {NGAOUNDERE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{D}iversity}, volume = {14}, numero = {9}, pages = {770 [20 ]}, year = {2022}, DOI = {10.3390/d14090770}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010086105}, }
