@article{fdi:010086043, title = {{N}ew records of fern species from {N}ew {C}aledonia in the genera {D}avallia, {D}icranopteris, {D}ryopteris, {P}teris, and {T}richomanes}, author = {{P}errie, {L}. {R}. and {A}mice, {R}. and {S}hepherd, {L}. {D}. and {L}audereau, {C}. and {B}ruy, {D}avid and {T}uiwawa, {M}. and {O}hlsen, {D}. {J}. and {B}rownsey, {P}. {J}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{S}ix fern species are newly reported or substantiated as indigenous to {N}ew {C}aledonia: {D}avallia sessilifolia, {D}icranopteris caudata, {D}ryopteris arborescens, {P}teris terminalis, {T}richomanes atrovirens, and {T}. kurzii. {T}his is the first record of {D}ryopteris for {N}ew {C}aledonia. {O}ur findings are based on extensive fieldwork, inspection of specimens in relevant herbaria including type material, comparisons with authoritative references, and phylogenetic analyses of chloroplast {DNA} sequences. {T}he global and {N}ew {C}aledonian distribution, morphological diagnosis, and conservation status are given for each species. {D}avallia sessilifolia, {D}ryopteris arborescens, {P}teris terminalis, and {T}richomanes atrovirens are provisionally assessed as {C}ritically {E}ndangered or {E}ndangered in {N}ew {C}aledonia, because they have few populations that are each of limited size, and some are also threatened by fire or introduced deer and pigs. {W}hile {D}icranopteris caudata occurs in open habitats, the others are largely confined to humid habitats at high elevation, or to the wetter forested valleys of north-east {G}rande {T}erre. {T}hese are the most likely habitats in which to find more populations of these species, but also other new species records and new endemic ferns. {A}longside the recent description of several new endemic species, the addition of so many non-endemic indigenous species to a fern and lycophyte flora of approximately 300 species is an indication that considerable work remains to be done in documenting these plants in {N}ew {C}aledonia.}, keywords = {{C}onservation ; {N}ew {C}aledonia ; new species records ; phylogeny ; taxonomy ; {NOUVELLE} {CALEDONIE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{N}ew {Z}ealand {J}ournal of {B}otany}, volume = {[{E}arly access]}, numero = {}, pages = {[27 ]}, ISSN = {0028-825{X}}, year = {2022}, DOI = {10.1080/0028825x.2022.2115931}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010086043}, }
