@article{fdi:010085939, title = {{D}iversity, systematics and biogeography of {F}rench {P}olynesian {L}obophora ({D}ictyotales, {P}haeophyceae)}, author = {{V}ieira, {C}. and {D}e {C}lerck, {O}. and {N}'{Y}eurt, {A}. {D}. and {D}'{H}ondt, {S}. and {M}illet, {L}. and {K}im, {M}. {S}. and {P}ayri, {C}laude and {Z}ubia, {M}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{W}e re-evaluated the diversity of {L}obophora using an integrative taxonomic approach based on a broad sampling across {F}rench {P}olynesian archipelagos. {O}ur results show that {F}rench {P}olynesia supports at least 37 {L}obophora species of which similar to 57% (21) are endemic. {T}his level of endemicity is comparable to that presently known in the {C}aribbean and the western {I}ndian {O}cean, while {F}rench {P}olynesian coastlines cover a much smaller length. {W}ith a third of the species in common, {F}rench {P}olynesia shares considerable biogeographic affmities with the {M}elanesian {I}slands, situated over 4000 km to the west. {D}istribution ranges of a few species reach the western {I}ndian {O}cean, and two species also occur in the {A}tlantic. {W}e hypothesize that {L}obophora species in {F}rench {P}olynesia have mainly evolved into endemic species from colonizers originating from the {C}entral {I}ndo-{P}acific. {T}hese rare dispersal events to ocean archipelagos followed by a long period of isolation and speciation represent an important process responsible for the high level of endemism in remote archipelagos. {W}hile south-eastern {P}acific {I}slands could be considered an 'evolutionary graveyard' for the genus {L}obophora as little local radiation occurred, this may simply be due to recent evolutionary history. {B}ased on these new data, the diversity of {L}obophora represents similar to 10% of {F}rench {P}olynesian seaweed diversity. {E}ighteen new species of {L}obophora are here described from {F}rench {P}olynesia.}, keywords = {{A}lgae ; cox3 ; molecular taxonomy ; new taxa ; psb{A} ; rbc{L} ; {POLYNESIE} {FRANCAISE} ; {PACIFIQUE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{E}uropean {J}ournal of {P}hycology}, numero = {}, pages = {[28 p.]}, ISSN = {0967-0262}, year = {2022}, DOI = {10.1080/09670262.2022.2092216}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010085939}, }
