@article{fdi:010085464, title = {{R}espective and combined roles of rhizobia and ectomycorrhizal fungi in the plant growth, symbiotic efficiency, nutrients and metals contents of a leguminous tree species growing on ultramafic soils}, author = {{V}incent, {B}. and {H}annibal, {L}aure and {G}aliana, {A}. and {D}ucousso, {M}. and {J}ourand, {P}hilippe}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{A}cacia spirorbis subsp. spirorbis {L}abill. is a widespread tree legume in {N}ew {C}aledonia that establishes mutual symbioses with both {N}2-fixing rhizobia and ectomycorrhizal ({ECM}) fungi. {M}oreover, {A}. spirorbis is able to naturally grow on ultramafic soils, characterized by a lack of nutrients but containing toxic concentrations of metals. {I}n this study, we investigated the relationships between the symbiotic efficiency, the plant development, nutrients and metals contents in ultramafic soils. {S}eedlings of {A}. spirorbis were grown in the greenhouse on an ultramafic substrate, and inoculated with three strains of {B}radyrhizobium sp. and/or with three isolates of the {ECM} species {P}isolithus albus, used alone or in combination. {A}fter 12 months of growth, we measured plant biomass, nodulation, mycorrhization, shoot nutrient and metal contents. {O}ur results showed that a single inoculation with {P}. albus and dual inoculation with {B}radyrhizobium sp. significantly enhanced plant development under ultramafic conditions, with better plant growth, efficient absorption of major nutrients ({N}, {P}, {K} and {C}a) and alleviation of {C}r and {M}n uptake. {S}ymbiotic efficiency was shown to depend on specific combinations of rhizobia and {ECM}. {I}nteractions between symbionts were detected, with a significant increase in root nodulation in the presence of {ECM} fungi. {W}e conclude that the rhizobial and fungal symbioses associated with {A}. spirorbis play a key role in {A}. spirorbis adaptation to ultramafic conditions by boosting plant development and reducing metal uptake.}, keywords = {{NOUVELLE} {CALEDONIE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{S}ymbiosis}, volume = {[{E}arly {A}ccess]}, numero = {}, pages = {[15 ]}, ISSN = {0334-5114}, year = {2022}, DOI = {10.1007/s13199-022-00850-3}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010085464}, }
