(2015) to estimate the reporting rates for thirteen {A}tlantic {O}cean tuna fleets using coincidental tagging data and catch data disaggregated by species, school-type ({F}ish {A}ggregating {D}evice and {F}ree {S}wimming {S}chools), location and time. {T}he method was applied on recaptures and tag seeding experiments conducted during the {A}tlantic {O}cean {T}ropical {T}una {T}agging {P}rogram ({AOTTP}) of the {ICCAT} ({I}nternational {C}ommission for the {C}onservation of {A}tlantic {T}unas). {T}ag seeding consists of secretly planting tags on fish by observers onboard fishing vessels to estimate how many tags are found during later stages (landing, processing, etc.) and reported to scientific authorities. {O}ur results showed that the tag-reporting rate was as large as 84.70% (80.58-88.39%) for the {E}uropean {U}nion purse seiner fleet ({S}pain and {F}rance) but decreased for several surface fleets from 72.79% (67.49-77.77%) for the {S}panish baitboats (operating off {S}enegal or in {C}anary islands) to 22.83% (15.26-31.24%) for the {G}hanaian mixed purse seiner-baitboat fishery. {O}verall, we conclude that given the very low reporting rate for several important fleets operating in the {A}tlantic {O}cean, it is crucial to account for the reporting rate estimates to avoid highly biased results in future stock assessment using tagging data.}, keywords = {{T}ag reporting rate ; {T}ag seeding experiments ; {B}ayesian analysis ; {T}ropical ; tuna ; {A}tlantic ocean ; {ATLANTIQUE} ; {ZONE} {TROPICALE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{F}isheries {R}esearch}, volume = {253}, numero = {}, pages = {106372 [7 ]}, ISSN = {0165-7836}, year = {2022}, DOI = {10.1016/j.fishres.2022.106372}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010085257}, }
