@article{fdi:010085254, title = {{E}valuation of heavy metal contamination in the coastal aquaculture zone of the {R}ed {R}iver {D}elta ({V}ietnam)}, author = {{D}a {L}e, {N}. and {H}oang, {T}. {T}. {H}. and {P}hung, {V}. {P}. and {N}guyen, {T}. {L}. and {R}ochelle-{N}ewall, {E}mma and {D}uong, {T}. {T}. and {P}ham, {T}. {M}. {H}. and {P}hung, {T}. {X}. {B}. and {N}guyen, {T}. {D}. and {L}e, {P}. {T}. and {P}ham, {L}. and {N}guyen, {T}. {A}. {H}. and {L}e, {T}. {P}. {Q}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{C}oastal aquaculture contributes significantly to the local economy of many countries however water quality issues in the coastal regions are threatening the sustainability of this economic activity. {T}his paper presents the analysis of seven heavy metals ({HM}) in surface seawater and wastewater from the {R}ed {R}iver coastal aquaculture zone during 2019-2020. {HM} concentrations (mu g.{L}-1) from 72 seawater samples were: {Z}n: 60.76 (0.5-188.0); {C}u: 26.91 (0.10-96.0); {P}b: 7.27 (0.8-31.2); {C}r: 6.71 (0.6-28.4); {A}s: 1.38 (0.15-5.78); {C}d: 0.44 (0.04-2.41); and {H}g: 0.34 (0.02-1.39). {A}ll mean values of {HM} in seawater were lower than the {V}ietnam regulatory limits for aqua culture seawater although high individual {HM} concentrations were found in some isolated seawater samples. {C}oncerning wastewater quality, only mean {A}s concentration was higher than the {V}ietnam regulatory limit for surface water quality, despite the fact that high concentrations of other individual {HM} were observed. {T}he {PCA} analysis on the entire dataset of seawater and wastewater samples revealed that {HM} concentrations in seawater originate from various sources including human activities and natural conditions. {T}he total potential ecological risk index (averaging 18.6; from 7.48 to 39.05) for the {R}ed {R}iver coastal zone is in the low range. {T}hese results provide a scientific basis for better management of the coastal environment which is important for the sustainable development of the aquaculture industry in this area.}, keywords = {{H}eavy metals ; {S}eawater ; {W}astewater ; {A}quaculture ; {B}a lat ; {R}ed river ; coastal zone ; {VIET} {NAM} ; {FLEUVE} {ROUGE} {DELTA}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{C}hemosphere}, volume = {303}, numero = {1}, pages = {134952 [ 13 p.]}, ISSN = {0045-6535}, year = {2022}, DOI = {10.1016/j.chemosphere.2022.134952}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010085254}, }
