@article{fdi:010084595, title = {{L}ength-weight relationships of four fish species from {F}atala estuary, {G}uinea, {W}est {A}frica}, author = {{S}adio, {O}. and {S}imier, {M}onique and {L}e {L}oc'h, {F}ran{\c{c}}ois and {T}ito de {M}orais, {L}uis}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{T}his study provides length-weight relationships ({LWR}) that had not yet been reported for four fish species belonging to four different families: {C}hrysichthys johnelsi {D}aget, 1959, {C}ynoglossus senegalensis ({K}aup, 1858), {C}itharichthys stampflii ({S}teindachner, 1894) and {P}seudotolithus typus, {B}leeker, 1863. {D}ata were collected in the {F}atala estuary, republic of {G}uinea, each month between {J}anuary 1993 and {M}arch 1994, using alternately a purse seine net (length 250 m, height 20 m, 14 mm side mesh) and gillnets (side mesh sizes of 10, 12.5, 15, 15.5, 20, 22.5, 25, 30, 35 and 40 mm). {F}or each fish specimen, fork or total length and total weight were measured with precision to 0.1 cm and 0.1 g respectively. {A} wider size range, compared to the size range available in {F}ish{B}ase, was obtained for {P}seudotolithus typus. {T}he present study also provides a new maximum total length for {C}itharichthys stampflii. {T}he determination coefficient (r(2)) between length and total body weight ranged between 0.958 in {C}itharichthys stampflii and 0.989 in {C}ynoglossus senegalensis. {T}he allometric coefficient b varied from 2.9552 ({C}hrysichthys johnelsi) to 3.7288 ({C}itharichthys stampflii). {T}he value of {LWR}s for the four fish species should assist fisheries scientists and managers to complement their further studies of population parameters to improve management decisions in {F}atala estuary and, more widely, in {W}est {A}frica.}, keywords = {{F}atala estuary ; fish species ; {G}uinea ; length-weight relationships ; {GUINEE} ; {FATALA} {ESTUAIRE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{J}ournal of {A}pplied {I}chthyology}, volume = {[{E}arly access]}, numero = {}, pages = {[3 ]}, ISSN = {0175-8659}, year = {2022}, DOI = {10.1111/jai.14318}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010084595}, }
