@article{fdi:010084547, title = {{B}romo activity over the last decade : consistent passive degassing and source magma evolution}, author = {{A}lfianti, {H}. and {B}ani, {P}hilipson and {S}umaryadi, {M}. and {P}rimulyana, {S}. and {M}arlia, {M}. and {S}aing, {U}. {B}. and {H}aerani, {N}. and {G}unawan, {H}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{B}romo is among the very active volcanoes in {I}ndonesia and is known for its recurrent and long-lasting eruptive manifestations. {P}ast volcanic gas studies have revealed {B}romo as one of the principal sources of volcanic degassing in {I}ndonesia. {T}his high degassing from {B}romo volcano is further characterized in this work, based on more than 10 years of intermittent ground-based gas measurements, combined with daily {SO}2 mass, captured by the {OMI} sensor. {O}ver the past decade, {B}romo has released 0.7 {T}g of {SO}2 into the atmosphere, representing 3% of the volcanic degassing budget of {I}ndonesia and 0.3% of the global volcanic {SO}2 emission budget outside eruptive periods. {R}esults also reveal that 18.8 {T}g of {H}2{O}, 2.0 {T}g of {CO}2, 0.1 {T}g of {H}2{S}, and 0.005 {T}g of {H}-2 were released from the {B}romo volcano in one decade. {A}bout 81% of these gases are released passively between eruptive events. {T}he chemistry of the eruptive products, sampled between 2001 and 2019, indicate that {B}romo volcanic activity is sustained by a basaltic-andesite to basalt trachy-andesite magma source with a transition from medium-{K} to high-{K} composition. {S}uch an evolution associated to a {C}-rich gas likely resulted from a low partial melting and sediment contribution to the genesis of the source magma. {N}ew magma injections into the reservoir and fractional crystallization have further amplified the changes of magma composition. {F}inally, we speculate that the shallow reservoir replenishment, in response to the continuous strong degassing is the driving mechanism behind the {B}romo frequent eruptive events.}, keywords = {{B}romo volcano ; {C}onsistent strong degassing ; {M}edium-{K} to high-{K} melt source ; {INDONESIE} ; {BROMO} {VOLCAN}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{G}eoscience {L}etters}, volume = {9}, numero = {1}, pages = {15 [9 ]}, ISSN = {2196-4092}, year = {2022}, DOI = {10.1186/s40562-022-00221-2}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010084547}, }
