@article{fdi:010083965, title = {{U}se of the proteomic tool {MALDI}-{TOF} {MS} in termite identification}, author = {{H}asnaoui, {B}. and {D}iarra, {A}. {Z}. and {B}erenger, {J}. {M}. and {M}edkour, {H}ac{\`e}ne and {B}enakhla, {A}. and {M}ediannikov, {O}leg and {P}arola, {P}.}, editor = {}, language = {{ENG}}, abstract = {{M}atrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry ({MALDI}-{TOF} {MS}) has proved effective for the identification of many arthropods. {A} total of 432 termite specimens were collected in {M}ali, {C}ote d'{I}voire, {T}ogo, {S}enegal, {S}witzerland and {F}rance. {M}orphologically, 22 species were identified, including {A}ncistrotermes cavithorax, {A}mitermes evuncifer, {C}ryptotermes brevis, {C}ubitermes orthognathus, {K}alotermes flavicollis, {M}acrotermes bellicosus, {M}acrotermes herus, {M}acrotermes ivorensis, {M}acrotermes subhyalinus, {M}icrocerotermes parvus, {M}icrotermes sp., {O}dontotermes latericius, {P}rocubitermes sjostedti, {P}romirotermes holmgreni, {R}eticulitermes grassei, {R}eticulitermes lucifugus, {R}eticulitermes santonensis, {T}rinervitermes geminatus, {T}rinervitermes occidentalis, {T}rinervitermes togoensis, {T}rinervitermes sp., {T}rinervitermes trinervoides and {T}rinervitermes trinervius. {A}nalysis of {MALDI}-{TOF} {MS} spectra profiles from termites revealed that all were of high quality, with intra-species reproducibility and inter-species specificity. {B}lind testing of the spectra of 389 termites against our updated database with the spectra of 43 specimens of different termite species revealed that all were correctly identified with log score values ({LSV}s) ranging from 1.65 to 2.851, mean 2.290 +/- 0.225, median 2.299, and 98.4% (383) had {LSV}s > 1.8. {T}his study is the first on the use of {MALDI}-{TOF} for termite identification and shows its importance as a tool for arthropod taxonomy and reinforces the idea that {MALDI}-{TOF} {MS} is a promising tool in the field of entomology.}, keywords = {{MALI} ; {COTE} {D}'{IVOIRE} ; {TOGO} ; {SENEGAL} ; {SUISSE} ; {FRANCE}}, booktitle = {}, journal = {{S}cientific {R}eports - {N}ature}, volume = {12}, numero = {1}, pages = {718 [11 p.]}, ISSN = {2045-2322}, year = {2022}, DOI = {10.1038/s41598-021-04574-0}, URL = {https://www.documentation.ird.fr/hor/fdi:010083965}, }
